WHAT IS THE RIGHT COOLANT FOR MY ENGINE?
Observe manufacturer’s instructions for your coolant!
A functioning cooling system in the engine is, among other things, an essential guarantee for low-wear operation of the engine. The engine cooling must be able to cool extreme heat downs, which is generated during ignition of the fuel-air mixture. Without cooling, the tolerance ranges of the engine components would be exceeded and continuous operation would not be possible. Therefore, it is all the more important to maintain the entire cooling system and to guarantee a the antifreeze cooling system protection. In order to avoid unpleasant surprises when choosing the coolant, the manufacturer’s instructions must be observed! Choosing the wrong coolant can lead to undesirable chemical reactions and cause severe damage to the material.
Tasks of the coolant in the cooling system
- Corrosion protection
- Frost protection
- Increase of the boiling temperature of the cooling water
- Improved heat dissipation
- Lubrication of water pump, thermostat etc.
- Prevention against calcification
- Reduction of bubble formation
Selection of the right coolant
When choosing the right coolant or antifreeze, the additive technology used is an important indicator for the safe operation of the cooling system. The additives added by the manufacturers have a decisive effect on corrosion protection, lubrication and the low-temperature behaviour of the fluid. Incorrect use can lead to failure of the entire engine cooling system.
Current coolants differ mainly in the corrosion inhibitors contained in the additive technology:
Corrosion inhibitors contained in the additive technology
IAT (INORGANIC ADDITVE TECHNOLOGY) | SILICATE BASE (e.g. G11)
OAT (ORGANIC ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGY) | SILICATE FREE (e.g. G12+)
HOAT (HYBRID ORGANIC ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGY) |
|
Widely used release standards are:
STANDARD VW | STANDARD BASF |
G11 | G48 |
G12 | |
G12+ | G30 |
G12++ | G40 |
G13 |
Advantages of antifreeze cooling system protection BIZOL G12+
BIZOL Coolant G12+ concentrate (OAT-based additives)
Benefits
- Excellent protection against corrosion
- Effective protection against cavitation corrosion and foam formation
- Excellent sealing compatibility with rubber and plastic
- Long lasting durability of chemical properties
- Reduces repair costs of thermostat, radiator and water pumps
Regular replacement of the coolant should be considered every 5 years and is an important maintenance measure to ensure engine cooling!
