Brake fluid
The quality of the brake fluid and its compliance with the standards of your car affects the performance of the entire braking system, so your safety depends on it. In serviceable and well-maintained cars, the reaction when you press the brake pedal is instantaneous. If you notice that during operation your car is not so well performs its tasks, it is worth replacing the manufacturer or go to the service station and check the system.
Therefore, when buying brake fluid, the price of which is below average or from a little-known manufacturer, remember that there may be negative consequences for the car and others.
During operation, the means should be in its natural physical state: it does not boil, turning into steam or freeze, and working characteristics, are preserved for the period specified by the manufacturer.
How does brake fluid work?
Brake fluid is a type of hydraulic mixture that transmits forces in the braking system of the car. It is what provides the stopping power when you step on the pedal.
Properly selected brake fluids allow the unit to work almost instantly under all operating conditions. A fresh product has a low compressibility and copes well with this task.
But over time, the properties of brake fluids weaken, as they tend to accumulate moisture. This causes the boiling point to drop and performance to deteriorate. If the heat generated during deceleration heats the product above the allowable limit, it will boil and vapor will form. In this state, the mixture will become compressible and, depressing the pedal, will not result in deceleration.
Hydraulic mixtures are able to perform their functions because they are not compressible. When a medium in a closed system succumbs to pressure, it should move, not shrink in size. And gas is compressible under these circumstances. Therefore, it is important that the brake fluid is in a liquid state and does not change into a gaseous form.
Other important functions of the product include:
- protection of metal surfaces from corrosive processes;
- lubrication of moving elements;
- low moisture saturation;
- high boiling point and low freezing point;
- safety for rubber and plastic parts.
Today there are three classes of brake fluids: DOT 3, 4, 5. DOT 3 mixtures are suitable for cars with a drum system and are allowed to have disks in the front. They are also applicable to small cars that are not capable of high speeds. And it is also good for cars that do not drive much in city traffic. Now DOT 3 is suitable for a small number of cars.
DOT 4 brake fluids are suitable for most modern cars that have disc mechanism on all wheels. Now it is the most common class, as it is used in many high-speed car models. It is popular among owners of city cars (often drive in a start-and-stop format).
DOT 5 is the rarest. It is used in certain operating conditions, when the car often accelerates and decelerates for a long time. For such a mode, the means must have certain properties, which this class has.
Choosing a brake fluid should take into account the needs of electronic auxiliary devices: ABS, ESP, ACR, ASR, because not every mixture is suitable for them. The anti-lock mechanism has especially high requirements for the characteristics of the means. It needs a mixture with low viscosity and the latest additive package to reduce the hygroscopicity of the mixture.
Brake fluid should be changed at least after 2 years. During this time, it absorbs a lot of water, which greatly reduces the boiling point and the mechanism may not work during intensive loads.
When the product starts to age, it can go from clear and dark brown, to darker. Although it can also change color when saturated with moisture. The presence of moisture can be determined by calling for service.
Entrust the replacement of brake fluids to specialists. Remains of the old means should be completely drained from the device, and do this extremely carefully, because it is easily flammable and toxic to the body. Also, certain types of products should not be mixed together.
Types of BIZOL brake fluids
BIZOL has one line, Brake Fluid, which has two products. Next, let's look at these types and their features in more detail.
Brake Fluid DOT 4 LV
Brake Fluid is compatible with the latest models of automatic braking systems: electronic brake force distribution mechanism, machine stabilization, anti-skid device, stability control mechanism and anti-lock brakes. The brake fluid is suitable for all hydraulic clutch systems in which the product of DOT 3 and 4 tolerances is recommended.
The mixture has a lower viscosity. This makes it possible to increase or decrease pressure more sharply, which in turn improves the deceleration response during driving. The compound has proven itself in difficult conditions. It also does not harm rubber and plastic materials of the mechanism and reliably protects metal surfaces from corrosion. Advantages of brake fluids:
- Compatible with the latest models of ABS, ASC, ESP, ESC and EBD.
- Help the system retain its function at all temperatures.
- Optimum boiling point while absorbing moisture.
- Conform to ISO 4925 Class 6.
Brake Fluid DOT 4
Brake fluid withstands the toughest loads. It is compatible with all hydraulic clutch and brake systems that require DOT 3, 4.
The product has a high boiling point. It also reliably protects the mechanism from corrosive processes and does not harm plastic and rubber parts. Its features:
- Compatibility with the anti-lock mechanism.
- Low water absorption, which allows it to retain its qualities for a long time.
- Exceeds the DOT 4 standard.
- Maintains the functions of the mechanism at any temperature.
Features and advantages of BIZOL brake fluids
BIZOL products are designed to high standards and German engineering expertise. They exceed the DOT 4 standard and meet the latest ISO 4925 Class 3, 4, 6 regulations. The price of the brake fluid corresponds to its quality.
Thanks to its unique formula, it does not harm plastic and rubber parts of the mechanism and protects metal surfaces from corrosion. Brake fluids have a high boiling point and low moisture absorption, which allows them to maintain their quality at a high level for a long period of time. They are suitable for the mechanisms of the latest generation of machines.
To keep the system in optimum condition, it is important to replace brake fluids in good time. It is recommended to do this every two years. For replacement it is better to contact a service, as the mixture is easily flammable and toxic.
BIZOL has assembled leading experts to develop unique products that meet the ever-changing requirements of regulators and vehicle manufacturers. BIZOL has won the IAIR AWARD for innovation and high quality standards.
